Almost all smallholder farmers in West Africa farm poultry but feed and protein sources are becoming increasingly expensive, affecting meat and egg production and reducing family incomes. Fish farmers suffer a similar problem. Our project promotes the use of insects, a natural food source for poultry and fish, as a protein source to help improve livestock production and food security. Using insects in this way has been endorsed by the FAO as a tool to alleviate poverty.
